Between The Bars with Behn Gillece

Behn Gillece's new album 'Between The Bars' was released April 7, 2023 on Posi-Tone Records.

Rising Star vibraphonist Behn Gillece strikes an effortless and joyous balance between sound, silence and rhythm on his new album Between The Bars. With tasteful application of his craft, Gillece repeatedly shifts his focus back and forth between a variety of techniques and perspectives. While doing this, he moves straight forward through a series of original compositions that skillfully combine his high-powered harmonic approach with stunning displays of lyricism, creating an engaging set of transformative tour de force performances.

Gillece shines brightly throughout, while clearly enjoying the supportive companionship of pianist Art Hirahara, bassist Peter Slavov, and drummer Vinnie Sperrazza, each of whom provide unique contributions to the proceedings. Also joining the band for a few tracks are saxophonists Diego Rivera and Patrick Cornelius, along with talented newcomer trombonist Altin Sencalar. With an expressive program of musical expeditions, Between The Bars is an engaging exposition that will transport listeners into new realms of insight and sonorous delight.

Terae Stefon

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Terae Stefon looks to make his mark on an ever-changing city. A graduate of Franklin High School, he then attended Saint Martin’s University, majoring in English and Journalism. Terae found his way into radio by volunteering at local community radio stations HollowEarth and RainierAvenue Radio in Seattle and then at Total Traffic, keeping the region moving as a traffic reporter and producer. Terae’s excited to get back into music radio with Jazz24 and KNKX as well as dusting off his writing chops to share stories about the music, the artists and beyond.
