Hailing from various parts of the UK, the multicultural 8-piece collective stir the moods on their new album, Esengo

Taking a look at some new releases in the month of February that feature a R&B, Afro-Beat, and contemporary jazz from the states and abroad.

Dj Harrison, “Shades of Yesterday”

Dj Harrison continues to evolve his sound, as the Richmond, Virginia native, and Keyboardist of Butcher Brown takes the familiar solo route on his album Shades of Yesterday. Schooled in a variety of genres, Harrison’s latest album is a tribute of sorts as he honors his music heroes, Gary Wilson, Chick Corea, and Stevie Wonder.

London Afrobeat Collective, “Esengo”

Hailing from various parts of the UK, the multicultural 8-piece collective stir the moods on their new album. Laced with elements of Nigerian funk made prominent by Fela Kuti, the Collective’s new album features traditional Afrobeat mixed with Jazz, Latin, and even Reggae Dub. Featuring the renowned Congolese vocalist Juanita Euka, she and the collective are crossing new boundaries in the genre of Afrobeat.

John Surman, “Words Unspoken”

A familiar name in the UK music scene, Surman’s 20th album as a leaderis a deep dive into new age, contemporary jazz along with the quartet of Rob Waring (Vibraphone), Rob Luft (Guitar), and Thomas Strønen (Drums).

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Terae Stefon looks to make his mark on an ever changing city. A Graduate of Franklin High School, he then attended Saint Martin’s University, majoring in English and Journalism. Terae found his way into radio by volunteering at local community radio stations HollowEarth and RainierAvenue Radio in Seattle and then at Total Traffic, keeping the region moving as a traffic reporter and producer.
