Scott/Grant 5, Horizon Song
Guitarist Andrew Scott and Trombonist Kelsey Grant come together on a rare collaboration of instruments. The two offer a fresh yet classic sound on their debut album Horizon Song. Full of originals and warm tunes, featuring the bossa nova style title track, Horizon Song. A cool album for the hot summer, the rest of the quartet includes Amanda Tosoff (Piano/Keyboards), Neil Swainson (Bass), and Terry Clarke (Drums).
Pat Metheny, Moon Dial
The timeless guitar player is back on the scene with his 13th solo album, not including the sea of albums he’s released throughout the years. Fresh off last year's release of Dream Box and tour of the album, it was one of the rare times Metheny performed solo onstage. Moon Dial is a continuation of Metheny’s new found solo journey. Always one to expand, the 70 year old performs originals, new renditions of older tunes, and a Chick Corea piece on his newly discovered baritone guitar. Recorded mostly in the month and nights of December, Metheny says the music is a reflection of the solitary winter hours. It’s summer, sure, but Pat Metheny is perfect for any season, as is this album.
Lakecia Benjamin, Phoenix Reimagined
From her highly anticipated album released earlier in the year, Lakecia Benjamin’s made the most of 2024, now releasing a rare-live recording of songs from her newest album, Phoenix Reimagined. The saxophone-poet showcased the power of her voice with personal, empowering lyrics on Let it Go, Benjamin’s duet with rapper/multi-instrumentalist Georgia Anne Muldrow. Guest performances from Randy Brecker, John Scofield, and Jeff “Tain” Watts easily makes this one of the best albums of the year.
